Ash Wednesday – the beginning of Lent.
A Catholic tradition in remembrance of the 40 days Jesus spent wandering in the wilderness. A solemn time that we as Believers, all Believers, are encouraged to reflect on our commitment to our faith.
Although I’m not officially a Catholic – I personally love the Lenten tradition, The whole idea of giving something up and relying on God for strength, although it’s something we’ve learned to lean on everyday – this process is still totally appealing.
However, if we’ll really look at this tradition and allow our understanding of it to evolve – we’ll see this season as more of a time of focusing on our faith, and yes, trying to live a more intentional life, while yes, giving up things that get in our way (like biscoff and milk before bed) so yes, to spend more time with Him and to forget our longing for what we gave up.
Basically allowing Him to fill that need that we somehow fill with the substance of whatever it is we’re giving up – our sacrifice.
Oh but these sacrifices we make – they’re nothing compared to the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for each of us. He’s the Master of sacrifice.
So yes, as we move through this season and we find ourselves craving what we gave up – let’s stay mindful to remember to stop, and yes, take that time to spend with Him, while allowing Him to fill our heart and mind with more and more of His love
The truth is – none of this is about what we give up, it’s all about what we gain.
We are loved by love Himself. He loves us big and He loves us strong, and yes – love wins period
“And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him” Mark 1:13
