As we lead up to the end of the beginning, we have landed on “Maundy Thursday” – referring to the commands Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper –
We are to love with humility by serving one another and staying constantly mindful of His sacrifice.
Think about that day – before the Passover meal Jesus washed the feet of His disciples – it was with this act of service that He showed them the full spectrum of His love while showing us that as Believers, we are to love one another through humble service no matter who they are or what we think of them – this is His command.
Then at the Passover meal, He took the bread and wine, asking His Father to bless it while breaking the bread into pieces, sharing it with His disciples and then he spoke –
“This is My body given to you – do this in remembrance of Me” as the wine passed, He spoke again “this wine is a token of God’s new covenant to save you, an agreement sealed with the blood I will pour out for you”
What heartache He must have felt that day – He had dealt with so many selfish people with unforgiving hard hearts, but yet still loved us and kept moving forward for us.
Let’s show Him today that we “get it” we get that the gospel is simply that we are to love others as He loved and does love us – spontaneously, sacrificially and joyfully – for this is obviously what it’s all about.
Something that should be so simple, yet the one thing we do not always do – while finding a way to justify our actions.
I personally have fallen short of this command more than once or twice – but Praise God, it’s a new day and we can begin it with a renewed heart.
We are loved by love Himself. He loves us big and He loves us strong, and yes – love wins period
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34,35
