Personally I’ve dealt with addiction all of my life – whether it be on the receiving or giving end – the one thing I do know is simple.

Addiction is like a black hole – it pulls in everything good and only leaves feelings of hopelessness and loneliness. It’s a void that grows larger and larger over time.

The struggle of overcoming a substance use disorder can feel like an impossible task to achieve.

And yes – it’s hard to say how our addiction grew to such proportions – it started as a recreational habit, helping us to unwind after a big day or simply to loosen up in social circles.

Over a period of time, this seemingly harmless habit evolved into something more dark and menacing.

At this point, we may feel as if all hope is lost – that the walls are closing in around us – leaving us no options other than to continue on with the vicious addictive cycle.

Oh and yes – there will be times when we think that God has forsaken us – that He’s walked away and withdrawn all support – while all the while – leaving us to fend for ourselves.

However, I’m here to tell you – this could not be further from the truth – I overcame substance abuse years ago – it was a rollercoaster ride through many years. I was invisible – or so I thought.

When the time came for me to look at myself and understand, that I had buried deep the hurt and pain of certain things in my life by covering them up with mind numbing measures – it was hard to look at myself – it was hard to look at my family – and yes – it was hard to look at God.

Yet through it all – the hurt the pain and the shame – God never turned away. He lifted my chin ever so gently and whispered nothing but love, peace and comfort into my very soul – which in turn – reunited our family and our view of life – as it really is.

I can’t imagine a trial nor a triumph without Him – He is the rock on which we can all stand.

So yes – if you’re struggling today – reach out to a loved one – go see a friend – do all the positive things you can find to do – and yes – let Him ride with you – it is truly the sweetest ride ever.

God Speed

We are loved by love Himself. He loves us big and He loves us strong, and yes – love wins period.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2
