“Our prime purpose in this life is to help others, and if you can’t help them – at least don’t hurt them.” Dalai Lama XIV
As our relationship with God grows stronger, our relationship with others gets better.
We then begin to truly “get” the parable of the good Samaritan – the man from Jerusalem lay dying on the side of the road, and his fellow men, who yes, were both officials in the church – passed him by.
And not only that – they literally moved to the other side of the road to do it.
However – it was a simple Samaritan who came to help him – right where he was, and no, it didn’t matter which side of the road he needed to travel to do so.
This parable was Jesus’ answer to the question “Who is my neighbor?” We can easily see, that yes – it’s through Him we understand that any person in need is our neighbor – who we are commanded to love as ourselves.
It’s all about relationships, which for some reason we tend to have a great deal of trouble with – they can be so awesome when we work together for common good – yet so excruciatingly painful, when one person decides their own gain is more important than simply finding a way to seek a solution inside of it.
Betrayal is a common theme in Scripture as often a part of our journey – successful relationships never require anyone to be perfect – it simply requires us to put the relationship above ourselves, which in turn – requires total selflessness and open honest communication.
And that, as we all understand – is not always easy.
We are loved by love Himself. He loves us big and He loves us strong, and yes – love wins period
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:36-40
