On Thursday night in Gethsemane, Jesus was arrested – He was betrayed by one of his disciples and abandoned by the others. The chief priests and the Sanhedrin called for secret trials in the dead of the night, and the verdict handed down was that Jesus would be crucified. This is something the Roman official Pontius Pilate has to executed, and although reluctant, that’s what he did..

So yes, as we awake on this “Good Friday” morning, and we sit down and think about the road that Jesus walked that day – we can feel the anguish and confusion that His followers felt. Not only were they experiencing the loss of a wonderful and magnificent friend, but yes, they also experienced a loss in their faith.

They couldn’t understand the why – much like we don’t when we lose someone we love, or when the world shifts before our eyes.

But yet, our hope tells us, that there’s a reason for everything – even when we can’t see it.

On that day they looked upon, not only their friend but their Lord and Savior, and God was silent. They heard nothing but the sounds of pain and agony around them, and their faith was shaken.

If we close our eyes right now, we too can see Him hanging on that cross, all powerful, and yes, totally capable of getting off if He wanted to – He could have rewritten the whole story, right then and there.

However, He chose not to do so – He was on a mission to save the world from Itself.

So then and there – He took our mess and our sins on His very shoulders, so that we could have a relationship with God through Him. He took the beating. He wore the crown of thorns. He carried that crossbeam through the narrow streets of The Via Dolorosa, to Golgatha where He was crucified while suffering the most excruciating death possible – until every last breath He had in Him was gone.

We can’t imagine anything was good about that day, for no, the end of the Book had not yet been written, so yes, His followers were sad and heartbroken. Their very hope had died.

You and I – we are blessed, for we know the end of the story.

So today as we remember our loss, we also have the honor of celebrating our gain, for we know that we know that we know – Love Himself walked that walk for each and every single one of us, so that we may fully live.

May today be a reminder of our hope in Him, and of what’s truly important in our lives.

Look around, feel the love, and know, without a shadow of doubt, He is with us, constantly leading, constantly guiding, and yes, constantly comforting us as we move through our days ahead.

We are loved by love Himself. He loves us big and He loves us strong, and yes – love wins period

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16
