So many of us spend much of our time being loyal to other people. I’m as loyal as the day is long and I am selfish in the way I expect it in return.

Loyalty in others is high up on my list of attributes – and yes, while being loyal is a good thing – we often forget the need to be loyal to ourselves.

We want to help those we love find their way, we want to encourage them to be independent, strong and loyal to those they meet, love and encourage – yet when thinking it through, we find that in many cases, we do all of this and we forget to stop even just for a moment to stick to our own plans.

When we get bogged down with the daily stresses of life we sometimes lose sight of who we really are – and yes, at some point we have to make up our mind to stop, “take five” and stay loyal to our own core needs and desires.

We need to invest a little time reacquainting ourselves with all our likes and dislikes – we need to look at what we’re good at and the dreams we have for ourselves.

It’s then that we’ll soon discover a renewed spirit for living – one that allows us to explore all those God-given capabilities we’ve had tucked away.

They’re there and it’s our responsibility to use them for His glory – I could never imagine living a life where I did not use my gift of encouragement, whether it’s a written word, a silent hug or kind word – it’s a gift that doesn’t come naturally and it needs to be shared with anyone and everyone that passes through my life.

Friends, loyalty to others, as well as to ourselves – simply makes for a happy and satisfying life.
