We do and say things that are hurtful, not only to others but also to ourselves – our heart hurts so bad after the fact that shame comes in and rears his ugly face.
We try to justify our behavior, however – there is no justification in this world that gives us a right to act out this way.
The truth is – this spirit of shame – it invades the soul and affects every aspect of our life. It distorts the way we view ourselves, how we view others, and how we view life in general.
And friends – this spirit can and will manifests itself in so many negative ways.
We tend to live in extremes – we view things and people as all good or all bad – which only leads to anger and frustration when people fall short of the expectations we have for them – we also place too high expectations on ourselves, and this makes us criticize ourselves and end up feeling like a total failure.
Shame makes us identify ourself with our mistakes or with what other people say about us and when we fail, we label ourself a failure.
We take what other people say to us too personally, and make the negative words people speak to us our identity – when somebody corrects us for an error we made – we internalize it and start thinking we are not good enough.
It makes us worry too much about what other people are thinking about us – it makes us dwell on negative thoughts about ourself, about other people, and about life, and as a result, we become very unpleasant to be around – we basically end up sabotaging ourselves as these two spirits work very well together.
Shame is a demonic spirit that lies and tells us we are not good enough – it attacks the mind and distorts how we view ourself – and in turn, it minimizes our strengths and magnify our weaknesses.
BOTTOM LINE – Shame is not of God and if we are experiencing this, we have to stop and realize that it is an evil tormenting spirit whose aim is to try and block us from becoming who He created us to be.
And yes – we can trust that we know that we know that we know – Jesus Christ is the healer of wounded souls and we need to allow Him to do so.
We are loved by love Himself. He loves us big and He loves us strong, and yes – love wins period
