It’s early in the morning and I’ve been awake for a few hours now – as I sit in the quiet reflecting on life – it’s time I write about one of our friends that has left us behind and moved on into the heavenly realm.

I first met Doug at the corner of Hotz and Defuniak in a small little Cafe in Grayton Beach where he and his buddies took to the kitchen and started cooking and serving up our local seafood with the taste of home, served up with love. I followed Doug to all his kitchens and enjoyed many a meal that he put on the table.

My favorite memory was when Doug had the open air cafe upstairs on the corner – and yes, when we wanted fried fish – upstairs is where we went. Doug fried fish in a fry daddy for years up there – and oh – it was so good. We laughed together all the time on how he would put out all that fish from that fry daddy in a day – and me – in a day, I would put more pancakes on plates off a little electric griddle in the small kitchen at Hibiscus.

We decided he put more fish out than I did pancakes – but only because he was open longer hours than us.

I chuckle just thinking about it.

And yes – although today he may gone from this earth – he will never be gone from our hearts. His friends who love him are mourning his leaving on one hand – while yes – praising God on the other, for now – he no longer hurts.

He is standing “tall and whole” in front of glory Himself.

We cherish memories as we move through life, and Doug – with his pleasant smile and sweet demeaner will always be remembered, not only in our lives – but in the many lives that he touched throughout the years.

Please join as his friends gather on Monday to celebrate Doug at the shore on Grayton Beach – where he loved the sunsets, and even more – the comradery of his friendships.

God Speed Sweet Friend.

We are loved by love Himself. He loves us big and He loves us strong – and yes – love wins period.

“And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it” Ecclesiastes 12:7
