Just like Samuel, we have expectations of who will lead us – we feel like we know what they should look like – what sort of background, and yes, what qualifications they should have.
And just as Samuel – we will initially go along with these expectations.
He looked to Jesse’s oldest son Eliab and thought “Surely the Lord’s anointed is now before the Lord”. However, God has greater discernment for a greater purpose – that we may never know.
So yes, we can be grateful this morning for His discernment, for none of us truly know the heart of another man.
Oh but what a way to live, as if we did – with His kind of genuine and unconditional love.
We can trust today and all the days to follow, that yes, He’ll see to it that His children have nothing to be afraid of, and yes, we need to understand that He can and will do just that.
We are loved by love Himself. He loves us big and He loves us strong, and yes .. love wins period
‘But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
